As-Built CQA Report for the Construction ofArea 2A at the Foothill Sanitary Landfill
San Joaquin County,California
• deployed after positioning the forklift at the top of slope. Care was taken that no equipment traveled
on the geocomposite surface that could damage the geocomposite. A crew of installers manually
pulled the geocomposite from the roll attached to the stinger, and walked down the slope for the length
of the area to be covered.
AES CQA Monitors observed the deployment and seaming to verify compliance with the specification
requirements. Adjacent panels were overlapped in a manner to have at least 6-inch overlap of the
lower geotextiles. This practice typically allowed approximately 4-inch overlap of the geonet. Plastic
fasteners were placed at an interval of 3 feet along vertical edges and at 6 inches along horizontal
edges. The geocomposite roll lengths supplied were such that the entire slope length could not be
covered in a continuous run and necessitated some horizontal seams on the side slopes Only one
horizontal seam was permitted per run down the slope and no adjacent runs were allowed to have
horizontal seams, i.e., only every other run was permitted to have horizontal seam. The horizontal
seams were kept within approximately 40 feet from the toe of the slope.
The lower geotextile was overlapped at least 6 inches as previously discussed and the upper geotextile
was sewn together with continuous stitches located a minimum of 3 inches from the mated edges. The
geocomposite panels were extended to the toe of slope under the floor LCRS system per design. AES
CQA Monitors observed the installation of geocomposite to make sure the geonet core was free of
materials that could impact the hydraulic transmissivity of the geocomposite. The geocomposite
• installation log is included in Appendix H.S.
6.5.6 Sacrificial Geomembrane
The sacrificial geomembrane used for the project was Dura Skrim 12BV manufactured by Raven
Industries. Approximately 100,000 square feet of sacrificial geomembrane was installed on east and
north slopes above the limits of operations soil layer. This limit was determined using GPS. The
installation occurred between September 11,2015 and September 22, 2015. The contractor installed a
ballast system using ultraviolet resistant rope and sand bags spaced at 15 feet. Lower ends of the
sacrificial geomembrane panels were embedded 2 feet in operations layer soil. The upper ends of the
sacrificial geomembrane were painted"Sacrificial Liner".
•
PA14 Projects114-101(SJCDPW North County and Foothillffoothill CWReporWinal ReportToothill CQA Rport-Final.docx
29
