DAILY FIELD REPORT Page 1 of 1
Project Name: Foothill Sanitary Landfill - Area 2A Report Number: 028
Project Number: 11-101-01 Date: Thursday 06/18/15
Owner: Dept. of Public Works, San Joaquin County CQA Monitors: T. Sathees
Contractor: R J Gordon Construction, Inc. M. Hu and
Weather: Clear Wind: 0-10 mph.
Temperature: A2prox. range 70-100 F Other:
The contractor worked from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
Excavation: Up to (1) CAT D6, (1) CAT D8 and up to (2) CAT 627 and (2) CAT 637 scrapers continued excavating Drainage
Basin 2 at southeast of the project area and southeast slope area, and hauled the material to the South Stockpile 3. After 3:30
pm the excavation activity was stopped. (1) CAT 621 water pull was used to maintain excavation areas.
Two laborers with shovels and rakes working on the north slopes to fine grade the slope face.
(1) CAT 14H motorgrader and (1) CAT D6 dozer part time trimmed the upper slopes along east side of the cell.
South Stockpile 1 (Foundation): (2) CAT 627 scrapers continued hauling the Foundation soil, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, to
placement area at the cell.
South Stockpile 2 (Operations): No activity was observed.
South Stockpile 3: The scrapers hauled and stockpile the soil from the excavation at Drainage Basin 2 at Southeast of the
project area. (1) CAT 621 water pull was used to maintain the stockpile and haul roads.
Access Road Embankment Fill (Earthfill): No activity was observed.
Subgrade Earthfill: No activity was observed.
Foundation Layer: Foundation layer was placed today at Southwest to Northwest area of the cell floor. (1) CAT 825
compactor compacted the Foundation layer prior to placement of new material. (2) CAT 627 scrapers hauled the soil from
South Stockpile 1 (Foundation) and placed thin lifts. The 825 compactor and a vibratory -type CAT CS54B smooth -drum roller
were used to break down clods and to compact the Foundation soil. (1) CAT 14H motorgrader was used for spreading and
mixing the soil. (1) CAT 621 water pull was used to moisture -condition the subgrade and Foundation soil. At 3:30 pm hauling
activity (scrapers) was stopped as to provide more time for processing to break down clods with the smooth drum roller,
motorgrader and the compactor.
The Contractor also utilized the scraper traffic, which were hauling and stockpiling the material from excavation areas to
provide additional processing and compaction to the Foundation layer at Northeast to Southeast area that was placed
yesterday (where a 6 to 7 -inch thick compacted layer is achieved). Four locations at Southwest floor area were examined in
order to evaluate the effectiveness of the processing -effort to help assist the Contractor. It was found that the approximately
4.5 to 11.7 % of the material had clods sizes of 1 to 2 inches, with scattered plus 2 -inch size clods. Four samples were
obtained, and the fines content was 32.5 to 41.5 %. All material passed through 3/8" sieve. One check point also conducted on
Foundation soil to help select the appropriate compaction curve. Density testing on the Foundation layer soil indicated
compliance with the specifications.
Equipment Onsite: (1) CAT D8T dozer, (1) CAT D6T dozer, (1) CAT D6R dozer (with slope board) (1) CAT 621G water pull,
(4) CAT 627 scrapers, (2) CAT 637 scrapers, (1) 14H motorgrader, (1) CAT 825H compactor, (1) water truck, (1) Hitachi 300
excavator, (1) CAT CS 54B smooth drum roller (vibratory type).
Problems/Resolutions.
Visitors:
Reviewed By: M.
