INTRODUCTION
The County of San Joaquin is responsible for the administration
and implementation of the County Solid Waste Management Plan. The
County Board of Supervisors appointed the Department of Public
Works Solid Waste Division as the lead agency responsible for
preparing the Plan. As such, the Division is responsible for
management of the County®s solid waste.
To properly plan for the disposal needs of San Joaquin County, the
Division compiles waste quantity data regarding the amounts of
solid waste delivered to the various disposal facilities throughout
the County.
The purpose of this report is to present information about the
waste quantities delivered during the 1988 calendar year to the
following disposal facilities:
- Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill
- Austin Road Sanitary Landfill
- French Camp Sanitary Landfill
- Forward Incorporated Sanitary Landfill
- Lovelace Transfer Station
- Foothill Sanitary Landfill
- Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
The County of San Joaquin owns and operates the Harney Lane
Sanitary Landfill and the Lovelace Transfer Station. Therefore,
a significant amount of information is presented for these sites
since the Division has extensive databases established for the
sites. The information for the other facilities is general in
nature.
Since not all of the above disposal sites have scales to weigh the
incoming waste, a conversion factor, to convert cubic yards to
tons, was developed using data compiled at the Lovelace Transfer
Station.
The conversion factor was calculated by taking the total outgoing
tons during 1988, (113,705 tons, ) and dividing it by the cubic
yards received at the transfer station during 1988 (580,380 cy) .
The result, .196, is the conversion factor used in this report to
convert cubic yards data to tons for the following sites:
- Forward Inc. Sanitary Landfill
- Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
The .196 is equivalent to 392 pounds per cubic yard.
i
