GeoSyntec Consultants
6. MATERIAL SAMPLING AND TESTING PROGRAM
A material sampling and testing program will be implemented during construction
to demonstrate that the final cover components have been constructed in accordance
with the Project Plans, Specifications, and regulatory requirements. All tests will be
conducted by either the Contractor, the CQA Team, or a qualified testing service under
the observation of the CQA Team. The delegation of material sampling and testing
responsibilities shall be outlined in the Project Specifications. The proposed test
procedures and frequencies are shown in Tables 1 through 7. The sampling and test
results shall be documented and reported as outlined in this CQA Plan.
The testing program is divided into material acceptance tests and compliance tests.
Material acceptance tests are performed before construction to check that the materials
proposed for use will comply with the Project Specifications. Material compliance tests
are performed and/or supervised by the CQA Team throughout construction to verify
that the components are constructed in compliance with the Project Plans and
Specifications.
6.1 Earth Materials Testing
The earth material testing requirements are detailed in Tables 1 through 7. The
CQA Team will perform the following duties and tests for the earth materials:
• Forward will measure the thickness of the foundation layer prior to
construction. The CQA Team will review the thickness measurements to
confirm that the minimum 2 -foot thickness is met.
• Forward will place and compact the foundation layer prior to construction. The
CQA Team will test the relative compaction of the foundation layer at the
frequency shown in Table 2. Forward will expose the relative compaction
testing locations under the direction of the CQA Team.
• Inspect soil stockpiles of materials identified for use in the vegetative layer and
clay liner components of the final cover.
J:IALUED\rORWARDICLOSUREIREPORrCQA REPORT 6-1 99.11.30
