GeoSyntec Consultants
• Obtain samples and arrange for acceptance testing as described below.
• Observe and record material placement and confirm if in compliance with the
Project Specifications.
6.2.1 Materials Acceptance Tests
Material acceptance tests shall be performed by the material manufacturer. The
manufacturer will submit a quality control program prior to construction for the CQA
team to review and approve. The manufacturer's testing and acceptance criteria shall
comply with the frequencies contained in the Project Specifications. The following
acceptance tests shall be performed on the geocomposite drainage layer material:
A) Transmissivity (ASTM D 4716)
B) Interface direct shear tests (ASTM D 5321) shall be performed on the following
interfaces:
• Vegetative layer/upper non -woven geotextile of geocomposite drainage layer.
• Lower non -woven geotextile of geocomposite drainage layer/compacted clay
liner.
The vegetative layer shall be compacted to 85% relative compaction at a water
content within 3 percent of optimum per ASTM D 1557. The compacted clay liner
shall be compacted to 90 percent relative compaction at a water content between +2%
and +5% above optimum per ASTM D 1557. The direct shear tests shall be performed
under normal stresses of 100, 200, and 300 psf. Prior to shearing, the entire test
specimen shall be soaked in water for 24 hours under the normal stress to be used in the
direct shear test.
Each test specimen shall be sheared until a minimum shear displacement of 3 -in. is
achieved. The results of the test shall be presented in terms of peak and large
displacement shear strength vs. normal stress. The geocomposite drainage layer
material supplied to the project shall be capable of meeting the required interface shear
strength values outlined in the Project Specifications.
]:WL.LIED\FORWARD\CLOSURE\REPORT\CQAREPORT 6-8 99.11.30 0
