Prior to liner installation, the Contractor, Liner Subcontractor, Construction <br />Manager and Geotechnical CQA Officer, shall verify that: <br />• All lines and grades have been checked by survey and approved by the <br />Construction Manager. <br />The subgrade has been prepared in accordance with the Project Specifications. <br />• The surface has been rolled and compacted to be free of surface irregularities, <br />loose soil, and protrusions. <br />• The supporting soil surfaces are property prepared and contain no sharp <br />protrusions that could damage the VFPE. <br />• There are no excessively soft areas, which could result in VFPE damage. <br />All construction stakes, hubs or other items used for grade control and/or <br />verification have been removed. <br />• All certification and testing of the underlying soils is complete and approved. <br />• The Liner Subcontractor has certified in writing that the surface on which the <br />VFPE will be installed is acceptable. <br />The certificate of acceptance shall be given by the Liner Subcontractor to the <br />Contractor and the Construction Manager prior to commencement of'VFPE <br />installation in the area under consideration. The Geotechnical CQA Monitors <br />shall have a copy of this certificate"before 'installation of VFPE commences in any <br />given area. <br />After the supporting surface has been accepted by the Contractor and Liner <br />Subcontractor, it shall be the Contractor and Liner"Subcontractor°s responsibility <br />to indicate to the Construction Manager any change in the condition of the <br />supporting surface that may require -repair work. °fie Construction M-anager <br />concurs with the Contractor and Liner Subcontractor, then the Construction <br />Manager shall coordinate the repair -of the supporting Surface. The subject -area <br />will also be observed by the Geotechnical CQA Monitors who shall have the <br />authority to reject an area even-.afiea.41,has. been accepted by the Contractor -and <br />Liner Subcontractor. <br />Anchor Trench <br />Anchor trenches shall be excavated to the lines and widths shown on the Project <br />Drawings, prior to VFPE placement. The Geotechnical CQA Monitors shall <br />observe that the anchor trenches have been constructed according to the project <br />documents. <br />Slightly rounded corners shall be provided where the VFPE adjoins the trench so <br />as to avoid sharp bends in the VFPE. No loose soil shall be allowed to underlie <br />the VFPE in the anchor trench. <br />Anchor trench backfill shall be compacted to at least 90 percent relative <br />compaction (ASTM D1557) as outlined in the Specifications. <br />-20- <br />C:\2001-048\FINAL COVER CQA.DOC\08/20/01 <br />Geologic Associates <br />
