Additional samples may be removed if the Geotechnical CQA Monitor observes a <br />suspect seam. <br />6.2.5.3 Sampling Procedures <br />Samples shall be made or removed by the Contractor/Liner Subcontractor at <br />locations selected by the Geotechnical CQA Monitors as the seaming operation <br />progresses. The Geotechnical CQA Monitor shall: <br />• Observe making and/or removal of samples. <br />Mark each sample with an identifying number, which contains the seam <br />number. (For nondestructive samples the seam number welded just prior to <br />making a sample will be marked on the sample). <br />• Record sample location on the panel layout drawing and enter the information <br />on a Destructive Sample Log Form. <br />• Record the sample location, date and time taken, weather conditions, and <br />reason the sample was made and/or taken (e.g., random sampte;,visual <br />appearance, result of a previous failure, etc.). <br />• Mark sample identifying number on VFPE adjacent to the location where the <br />sample was taken. <br />All holes in the VFPE resulting from destructive seam sampling shall be <br />immediately repaired in accordance with repair procedures described -herein. The <br />continuity of the new seams in the repaired area shall be tested according to <br />procedures described herein. <br />°6:2:5.4 Size of Samples <br />T-wo types of samplesMsha l be made or removed at each location.- First,.,two <br />samples shall be removed for field testing. Each of these samples shall be 1 -inch <br />wide with a length of 12 inches plus the seam width. For destructive sampling, <br />the sample shall be taken perpendicular to the seam and the distance between <br />these two samples shall be 38 inches. Samples designated for labor.atory.testing <br />shall be that portion of seam located between the two samples taken for field <br />testing. The samples for laboratory testing shall be 36 inches long with a,width•of <br />12 inches plus the seam width. The seam shall be centered lengthwise. The <br />samples for laboratory testing shall be cut into three equal parts and distributed as <br />follows: <br />One part for the Independent Testing Laboratory for testing. <br />One part to the Contractor/Liner Subcontractor. <br />One part to the Construction Manager for archive storage. <br />-27- <br />CA2001-048TINAL COVER CQA.DOC\08/20/01 <br />Geologic Associates <br />
