will serve Phase 8 located in the northeast corner of the site and Phase 9 which
will close the gap between the two existing landfill prisms. Phase 9 fill
sequencing will proceed from west to east over Phases 8 and 2. Phase 10,
located south of the South Branch, will be the final fill sequence.
To mitigate existing infiltration concerns, an interim cover will be placed over the
existing portion of the Austin Road Landfill. Class III waste will be placed in
previously filled areas of the Austin Road Landfill to establish the 2 to 3 percent
minimum grade for the interim final cover, as shown on Detail 1 on Drawing 3.
Once the interim final cover is placed, additional Class III waste will be placed
over the interim final cover to establish the required grades for the intermediate
liner. An LCRS will be placed over the interim final cover to collect and remove
leachate from the overlying Class III waste. The leachate collected above the
interim final cover will be drained to the south into the Class II cells to be
constructed south of the existing Austin Road Landfill.
Class III wastes to be placed above the interim final cover and beneath the
intermediate liner will be separated from Class II wastes by directing only Class
III waste loads to be disposed on the existing Austin Road Landfill. Class II waste
loads will be directed to the existing Class II cells at Forward or to newly
constructed Class 11 cells. Once sufficient Class III wastes are placed above the
existing Austin Road Landfill to establish the grades required for the intermediate
liner, the intermediate liner will be constructed and will serve as a barrier
between Class 11 and Class III wastes.
5.2.6 DRAINAGE
Surface water control includes protection of the landfill from surface water run-on
and flood influence by Little Johns Creek as well as proper handling of surface
water runoff from the landfill areas.
The surface drainage plan for the Forward Landfill is shown on Drawing 9 and
drainage details are shown on Drawing 7. The drainage control facilities include a
network of top deck diversion berms and inlets, down drains, perimeter channels
and bench drains for managing surface water runoff. A brief description of the
drainage facilities are discussed in the following sections.
Forward landfill)TD 5-9
L\Allied\2000.7 93'\Reports`JTD-PC PC MP702:Sec-5.0:5/24/02
Revision 1:07/16/02
BRYAN A.STIRRAT S ASSOCIATES
