The Contractor shall be solely responsible for the satisfactory completion of all <br /> earthwork in accordance with the Project Drawings and Specifications. <br /> B. Equipment used in the excavation, transport,mixing, stockpiling,processing, <br /> installation and compaction of all materials used in construction of the alternative <br /> final cover improvements will be standard of practice grading machinery of known <br /> specifications suitable for performing the required work in a timely and efficient <br /> manner. <br /> C. All material considered by the Geotechnical CQA Consultant to be unsuitable for use <br /> in the construction of the alternative final cover improvements shall be removed. <br /> D. All clearing, grubbing, stripping and site preparation for the project shall be <br /> accomplished to the satisfaction of the Geotechnical CQA Consultant and the <br /> Construction Manager. <br /> E. Material deemed unlikely to meet the performance specifications and not disposed of <br /> during clearing and grubbing or demolition shall be removed from the construction <br /> area as directed by the Construction Manager. <br /> F. The ground surface to receive fill shall be prepared (cleared, grubbed or stripped) to <br /> the satisfaction of the Geotechnical CQA Consultant and the Construction Manager <br /> and the fill shall be placed, spread, mixed, watered and compacted in accordance with <br /> the project specifications and as recommended by the Geotechnical CQA Consultant. <br /> G. The ground surface prepared to receive fill shall be scarified, disced or bladed until it <br /> is uniform and free from uneven features which may prevent uniform compaction. <br /> The scarified ground surface shall then be brought to approximately optimum <br /> moisture content, mixed as required, and compacted to a minimum of 90 percent of <br /> the maximum dry density as determined by ASTM D1557. If the scarified zone is <br /> greater than 12 inches in depth, the excess shall be removed and placed in lifts of six <br /> to eight inches in thickness. Prior to fill placement, the ground surface to receive fill <br /> shall be inspected by the Geotechnical CQA Consultant. <br /> H. Irreducible rock or rock fragments in excess of three(3) inches in maximum <br /> dimension shall not be utilized for the alternative final cover improvements. <br /> I. Suitable and sufficient processing and compaction equipment shall be on the job site <br /> to handle the amount of fill being stockpiled, processed, mixed and/or placed. If <br /> necessary, excavation or import equipment will be shut down temporarily in order to <br /> allow time for proper preparation and/or compaction of fills.
