® 6.2 COMPACTED FILL PLACEMENT
Field and laboratory testing for compaction, moisture content, and engineering properties
will be completed during construction of the final cover according to the following
minimum schedule. Should blending operations proceed without complications these
tests and minimum testing frequency may be modified as approved by the geotechnical
CQA consultant.
FILL TESTING
TYPE AND FREQUENCY
TEST DESCRIPTION TEST DESIGNATION MINIMUM TEST FREQUENCY
Moisture-Density Relationship STM D-1557 The greater of. one per 5,000 cubic
yards or 1 Rer material type
In-Place Moisture/Density ASTM D-2922,ASTM Four(4)field density tests shall be
(Nuclear or Drive Ring) -3017,ASTM D-2937 performed for each 1,000 cubic yards
of material placed,or at a minimum
f four 4 tests per construction da
In-Place Density and Moisture ASTM D-1556 10%of required density tests
Content Sand-Cone)
AT Permeability/Boutwell ASTM D-5084/ASTM One per 5,000 cubic yards placed
Method Falling Head Permeability D 6391
Field Test
Laboratory Permeability ASTM D-5084 or One per 10,000 cubic yards placed
® modified USBR E 9600
Atterberg Limits ASTM D-4318 One per 5,000 cubic yards placed
Full Grain Size Distribution ASTM D-422 One per 5,000 cubic yards placed or
1 per construction day and a minmum
f 1 per material type
Standard Classification ASTM D-2487 One per 5,000 cubic yards placed or
1 per construction day and a minmum
f 1 per material type
Visual Inspection STM D-2488 Laily
6.3 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
6.3.1 GENERAL
Where test results indicate that the lift thickness, maximum particle size, and/or in-place
density/moisture content, or the hydraulic conductivity of any portion of the fill does not
satisfy the project requirements, that particular portion shall be re-worked or replaced
then retested until the required condition has been attained and the resulting product
meets or exceeds the Project Specifications. No additional fill shall be placed over an
area until the existing fill has been tested horizontally and vertically and determined by
the CQA Monitor to meet the Earthwork Specifications of this document. The area to be
reworked will be verified by survey if in the opinion of the CQA Monitor conditions
warrant this detail.
-13-
C"\2003-033\EDOMHILLCQAPLAN.DOC
Geologic Associates
