In tho case of the non-dedicated pump, it is lowered into the well and then activate
(polder from 'the controller box is regulated which controls the discharge 'rate of the
centrifugal purge.pump). In the case of a well with a dedicated- pump, the pneuma,6.
controller box is connected to the dedicated pump (some wells have special high-rate
purge pumps used only for p ' g,these can be identified by the fittings*on the cap). A
dedicated discharge tilbe (kept locked at the well head is a protective . is then
attached to the discharge fittuag on the casing cap. The-Controller is then turned on acid
adjusted to reach the desired purge rate.
Note: In all cases where gasoline powered generator or compressors ate used, they are to
be placed at least ten feet downwind of the well being sainpled.
5. During Purging, field parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, and temperature)
will be moxXitored. Parameter measure;nents will be recorded on Purge and Sample.Logs.
In addition field observations also will be ma&and recorded.on then Purge and-Sam
Logs* Such observations include•flow rates;-volume-putgo color, odor, bubbling or any.
other notable observations. An example of a Purge Characterization and Sample Log is
attached. -
6_ Purging will.contir ue until-stable parameter readings are obtained. pH is considered
stable-if the readings do.not vary by greater than 0-1 PH unii. Temperature is considered
stable if it does not.vary by more that one degree Celsius. Conductivity and turbidity are
considered stable if they do not vary by greater than -I0%_ Field parameters.will be
repeated at approximate five gallon intervals_ A minimum of three well volumes of water
will be removed from each well. The final, stable, values will be recorded to be used in
the annual repott.
Sample Collection
Samples will:be collected as soon as possible after purging is completed. Laboratory-supplied
coniiiners will be used to hold the.water samples. Samples to be analyzed for volatile-organic
consduients will be collected first, ding on.the well, samples will be collected with either
dedicated pumps or disposable bailers (a-new factory wrapped bailer Will be used at each well).
In, the. case of dedicated pumps, the pump rate WE] be adjusted so that the sample will not ba
zVtated as it is collected in sample bottles. When bailers an used, they will be lowered slowly
into the well so not to disturb the water. The sample will be decanted into the bottles slowly with
849-FOM31OR32-5 A4 July 14,2040
Z e t
