PCE was detected in the effluent sample collected on July 13,2006, at a concentration
(0.25 J µg/L) slightly above the detection limit(0.15 µg/L), and,in response,the GTF was
shut down on August 9,2006.The PCE detection appeared to be anomalous and might have
resulted from cross contamination during sample collection, transport,or analysis. Between
June 1999 and July 2006,PCE was detected only once in the GTF effluent in November 2003.
The November 2003 detection resulted from sample contamination.
After discussions with the CV Water Board, the GTF was restarted on August 10,2006,to
collect a confirmation effluent sample (Atkinson,2006a). After the plant operated for
approximately 25 hours, the GTF effluent was sampled on August 11, 2006.The GTF was
then shut down, and the sample was analyzed using a 48-hour turnaround time. No VOCs
were detected in the August effluent sample, and the GTF was restarted on August 15,2006,
with permission from the CV Water Board.
No VOCs were detected in the GTF effluent sample collected on September 15,2006.
Under WDR Order No.R5-2003-0080,influent sampling for pH,specific conductivity,
turbidity, and VOCs is performed semiannually.Influent samples are collected from a
RDD/062900002(CAH3610.DOC) 3
