The "gap" between shear boxes was set at 80 mil (2.0 mm)
2. The test specimens were flooded during testing unless otherwise noted.
3. High Normal Stresses, >5psi (35 kPa) was applied using air pressure.
4. Low Normal Stresses, <5psi (35 kPa) was applied using dead weights.
5. The tests were terminated after 3.0"(75 mm) of displacement unless otherwise noted.
6. Tests were performed in general accordance with ASTM procedure D-5321 using a Brainard-Killman LG -112 direct shear machine
with an effective area of 12" x 12" (300 x300 mm).
TEST ORIENTATION: 8 NORMAL STRESS
TOP BOX WITH BOARD SPACERS GEOTEXTILE
222 211 22222211201-2112.
BOTTODM BOX W1 RIGID SUBSTRATE - GEOMEMBRANE
Asperity Height: 0.021 in.
SPECIAL TEST NOTES:
1. Each specimen of geomembrane was cut to 14" x 20" and clamped to the lower shear box.
2. Each specimen of geotextile was cut to 14" x 16" and clamped to the upper shear box.
3. Each test interface was sprayed with water then consolidated for 2 hrs at the specified normal stress, then sheared.
4. The test was performed in a "wet" or "flooded" condition.
5. Shearing occurred at the interface of the textile and geomembrane specimens.
6. The Friction Angle and Adhesion (or Cohesion) results given here are based on a mathematically determined best fit line.
7. Further interpretation should be conducted by a qualified professional experienced in geosynthelic and geotechnical engineering
t nese reswls spray omy to /he above !sled samples I materials.
