the optimum water content per ASTM D1557, and permeated with water, as <br />measured using a standard triaxial permeability test method ASTM D5084- <br />90. 0 <br />2.5 CLAY PLUG AND CLAY EARTHFILL MATERIAL <br />A. A natural clayey material free from roots, organic matter, frozen material, debris, <br />solid waste, rocks, or slag larger than 1 inch, and other deleterious materials. The <br />clay plug and clay earthfill material shall be obtained from an onsite borrow <br />source. <br />B. The clay plug and clay earthfill material shall be obtained from the onsite borrow <br />source. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall selectively excavate suitable <br />clay plug and clay earthfill material from the onsite borrow source. The <br />EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall provide personnel capable of identifying <br />soils suitable for the clay plug. <br />B. The clay plug and clay earthfill material shall have a soil classification of clayey <br />sand (SC), lean clay, sandy clay, or silty clay (CL), or fat clay or sandy clay (CH), <br />using the Unified Soil Classification System and shall meet the following <br />requirements: <br />1. Particle Size: Material having 100 percent by weight passing 1 -inch sieve, <br />90 percent by weight passing U.S. No. 4 sieve and at least 60 percent by <br />weight passing U.S. No. 200 sieve. The maximum in-place dry clod size <br />shall be 1 inch. 0 <br />2. Liquid Limit: 25 minimum to 60 maximum. <br />3. Plasticity Index: 10 to 40. <br />A. Granular Drainage Material (GDM): Clean, washed, well-rounded, hard, durable <br />sandy gravel free from foreign materials. Material shall have a maximum particle <br />size of 3/8 inch and shall have less than 3 percent passing the No. 200 sieve. The <br />minimum hydraulic conductivity to water shall be 0.1 cm/sec. <br />B. GDM shall contain no limestone or other material that will adversely react with <br />leachate. <br />C. The GDM shall be provided by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR. <br />2.7 COARSE GRAVEL <br />A. Clean, washed, well-rounded, hard, durable gravel free from dirt, clay clods, roots, <br />and other foreign materials.
