8. Placement of granular drainage materials on the geomembrane shall not proceed when the ambient temperature is less than 40 degrees F or more than 104 degrees F, unless approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. 9. Placement of granular drainage materials on the geomembrane shall be halted when wrinkling of the geomembrane becomes excessive enough, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, to damage the geomembrane. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR will not be compensated for any costs or delays resulting from this halt in Work and shall schedule granular drainage material placement at times when wrinkling of the geomembrane, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, is minimal. Approval by the QA/QC CONSULTANT of appropriate times for GDM placement does not absolve EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR of responsibility for repairing any geomembrane lining material damages during GDM placement, at EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense. C. Compaction Requirements: Compact using a minimum of two passes of a low ground pressure dozer (see Section 3.12.B.5), unless otherwise approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT or DESIGN ENGINEER prior to start of the Work. Approval does not absolve the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR of responsibilities for damage to the underlying geomembrane lining, at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense. D. Quality Control: 1. General: As the GDM is being placed, the QA/QC CONSULTANT will be monitoring the construction activities and soil properties. If tests conducted by the QA/QC CONSULTANT indicate that the GDM does not meet specified requirements, the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall terminate material placement until corrective measures are taken. 2. GDM Acceptance: Final acceptance of the GDM will be based on all tests made on completed Work on material samples taken from the completed layer, on leak location testing and repair, and on thickness as determined by the top of Clay Liner and top of GDM surveys. Testing for final acceptance shall be performed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in accordance with these Specifications and the CQA Manual. E. Protection: 1. Do not route construction traffic on top of GDM once material has been placed. 2. Constructed GDM shall be maintained to meet the requirements of this Specification until final completion and acceptance of the Work. This shall include all measures to prevent erosion. During seasonal or other extended shutdowns, all exposed surfaces shall be protected as detailed in Article 3.1 of this Section. In addition, the GDM shall be protected from any contamination that reduces the hydraulic conductivity. Any contaminated materials shall be removed and replaced at no cost to the OWNER.
