E. Protective Operations Layer Acceptance: <br />1. Final acceptance of the Protective Operations Layer will be based on tests <br />made on completed Work on samples taken from the completed layer, on <br />leak location testing and repair, and on thickness as determined by surveys <br />of the top of GDM and Protective Operations Layers. Testing for final <br />acceptance shall be performed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in <br />accordance with these Specifications and the CQA Manual. <br />3.15 GENERAL EARTHFILL <br />A. Place material in minimum 8 -inch lifts and compact each lift to approximately 90 <br />percent relative compaction (ASTM D1557). <br />B. Do not attempt to compact general earthfill that contains excessive moisture. <br />Aerate material by blading, discing, harrowing, or other methods, to hasten drying <br />process. <br />3.16 ANCHOR TRENCH <br />is <br />A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall excavate the anchor trench as shown <br />on the Construction Drawings. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall <br />protect the trench from desiccation, sloughing, and flooding. <br />B. All corners of anchor trench over, which geosynthetic materials will be placed <br />shall be rounded. 0 <br />C. Excavated material shall be placed at a sufficient distance from the edge of <br />excavations to prevent cave-ins or bank slides. <br />D. Backfill anchor trench when directed by GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR. <br />Anchor trench shall be backfilled with general earthfill or slurry cement mixture <br />as shown on the Construction Drawings or directed by the DESIGN ENGINEER <br />or QA/QC CONSULTANT. General earthfill used as anchor trench backfill shall <br />be compacted to 85 percent relative compaction per ASTM D1557. <br />3.17 BERMS <br />A. Construct termination, perimeter and anchor berms of general earthfill as shown <br />on the Construction Drawings. Place material in lifts not exceeding 1 -foot depth <br />(after compaction) and compact each lift to approximately 85 percent relative <br />compaction (ASTM D1557). <br />B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall repair or replace any geosynthetic <br />materials damaged during placement and compaction of the berms, at the <br />EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense. <br />Forward Landfill WNW FU -06 <br />02300 26 EARTHWORK <br />
