E. Protective Operations Layer Acceptance:
1. Final acceptance of the Protective Operations Layer will be based on tests
made on completed Work on samples taken from the completed layer, on
leak location testing and repair, and on thickness as determined by surveys
of the top of GDM and Protective Operations Layers. Testing for final
acceptance shall be performed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in
accordance with these Specifications and the CQA Manual.
3.15 GENERAL EARTHFILL
A. Place material in minimum 8 -inch lifts and compact each lift to approximately 90
percent relative compaction (ASTM D1557).
B. Do not attempt to compact general earthfill that contains excessive moisture.
Aerate material by blading, discing, harrowing, or other methods, to hasten drying
process.
3.16 ANCHOR TRENCH
is
A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall excavate the anchor trench as shown
on the Construction Drawings. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall
protect the trench from desiccation, sloughing, and flooding.
B. All corners of anchor trench over, which geosynthetic materials will be placed
shall be rounded. 0
C. Excavated material shall be placed at a sufficient distance from the edge of
excavations to prevent cave-ins or bank slides.
D. Backfill anchor trench when directed by GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR.
Anchor trench shall be backfilled with general earthfill or slurry cement mixture
as shown on the Construction Drawings or directed by the DESIGN ENGINEER
or QA/QC CONSULTANT. General earthfill used as anchor trench backfill shall
be compacted to 85 percent relative compaction per ASTM D1557.
3.17 BERMS
A. Construct termination, perimeter and anchor berms of general earthfill as shown
on the Construction Drawings. Place material in lifts not exceeding 1 -foot depth
(after compaction) and compact each lift to approximately 85 percent relative
compaction (ASTM D1557).
B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall repair or replace any geosynthetic
materials damaged during placement and compaction of the berms, at the
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense.
Forward Landfill WNW FU -06
02300 26 EARTHWORK
