El <br />earthwork and geosynthetic materials. The EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for repairing all identified leaks in the <br />geomembrane following placement of the overlying earthwork and <br />geosynthetic materials. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall remove <br />all earthwork and geosynthetic materials overlying the geomembrane to the <br />extent required to repair the leak and shall repair all identified leaks in the <br />geomembrane at his sole expense. Following the repair of the leak in the <br />geomembrane, the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall replace all <br />earthwork and geosynthetic materials at his sole expense. All Work <br />performed to repair and replace materials shall be performed in accordance <br />with the applicable Specifications sections. <br />B. Placing Requirements: <br />1. All synthetic materials underlying the Protective Operations Layer will be <br />inspected and approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT prior to placement <br />of soil material. <br />2. Deposit material in lifts not less than 12 -inches in depth (after compaction). <br />Do not operate placement equipment over the underlying GDM and <br />geotextile with less than 12 -inches of Protective Operations Layer in place. <br />3. Protective Operations Layer shall be placed in continuous and <br />approximately horizontal lifts for their full length and width using track - <br />type dozers unless otherwise specifically permitted by the DESIGN <br />ENGINEER or QA/QC CONSULTANT. <br />4. Method of dumping and spreading materials shall ensure uniform <br />distribution of the material. <br />5. No discing, ripping, or other mixing of the soil will be permitted within <br />12 inches of synthetic materials. <br />C. Compaction Requirements: Compact using a minimum of two passes of a track - <br />type dozer unless otherwise approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT or DESIGN <br />ENGINEER prior to the start of Work. Approval does not absolve the <br />EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR of responsibilities for damage to the underlying <br />geomembrane lining and geotextile, at EARTHWORK CONTRACTOWs sole <br />expense. <br />D. Quality Control: <br />1. Particle Size Tests: Particle size tests may be performed by the QA/QC <br />CONSULTANT on the Protective Operations Layer. If particle size does <br />not meet specifications, terminate placement and take corrective action prior <br />to continuing placement. <br />Forward Landfill WMU FU -06 <br />02300 25 EARTHWORK <br />
