B. Butt -Fusion Joining: Butt -fusion of pipes and fittings shall be performed in
accordance with the pipe manufacturer's recommendations as to equipment and
technique. Depending on site conditions, butt -fusion joining shall be performed
in or outside of the excavation at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's option.
3.6 PLACEMENT IN LEACHATE COLLECTION TRENCH
A. General: Care shall be exercised when lowering pipe into the trench to prevent
damage or twisting of the pipe.
B. Pipe Base: Pipe and fittings shall be laid directly on Coarse Gravel in leachate
collection trench as shown on Construction Drawings. The trench bottom shall be
carefully shaped to conform to the shape of the pipe and fittings for the bottom
one-quarter of the pipe.
C. Coarse Gravel Backfill: Backfill material shall be as specified in Section 02300,
EARTHWORK, and shall be placed in accordance with that Section and as shown
on the Construction Drawings.
3.7 CONNECTION AND REMOVAL OF 3 -INCH DIAMETER LEACHATE
COLLECTION PIPES
A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall develop a leachate mangement plan
with the OWNER, DESIGN ENGINEER, and QA/QC CONSULTANT to address
the control and containment of leachate during connection and removal of LCRS
pipes and trenches.
B. Connect WMU FU -04 and WMU FU -05 3 -inch perforated HDPE pipes using
appropriate coupler. Extend filter geotextile and coarse gravel as necessary to
connect LCRS trenches. Overlap filter geotextile a minimum 3 -feet.
F. As shown on the Construction Drawings, route the 3 -inch solid HDPE leachate
header pipe from the western end of WMU FU -05 (located on the top deck of the
former Austin Road Landfill) to the base of WMU FU -04. Route the 3 -inch solid
HDPE leachate header pipe from the eastern end of WMU FU -05 (located on the
top deck of the former Austin Road Landfill) to a temporary leachate storage tank
provided by the OWNER. Once construction of the WMU FU -05 base liner,
LCRS components, and protective operations layer in the southern portion of the
WMU FU -05 cell is completed.and approved for disposal by the RWQCB, route
the 3 -inch solid HDPE leachate header pipe that drains to the temporary leachate
tank to the base of the southern portion of the WMU FU -05 cell. The 3 -inch
solid HDPE leachate pipe shall be field fit and located such that it shall not
damage the WMU FU -05 lining system components.
3.8 PLACEMENT OF LEACHATE RISER PIPES
A. Place leachate riser pipes at location shown on the Construction Drawings.
B. Connect pipe sections by thermal butt fusion.
Forward Landfill WMU FU -06
02535 4 LEACHATE PIPES
