IE <br />CONTRACTOR'S acceptance of the related work of all other Sections, <br />including the subgrade. <br />3.2 ACCEPTANCE TESTING <br />A. Upon delivery to the site, samples of the geosynthetic clay liner shall be removed by <br />the QA/QC CONSULTANT and tested to ensure conformance to these <br />Specifications. Only materials passing the acceptance tests shall be installed. <br />B. Samples shall be selected by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in accordance with the <br />procedure outlined in the CQA Manual. <br />C. Samples shall be taken at the rate of one sample per lot or one per 100,000 sq. ft <br />(9,300 sq. m), whichever is greater and tested for bentonite mass per unit area, peel <br />strength and hydraulic conductivity. Direct Shear tests as described in Section <br />2.l .A.7 shall also be performed. <br />D. The QA/QC CONSULTANT will increase the frequency of sampling in the event <br />that test results are negative. This additional testing shall be performed at the <br />expense of the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR. <br />E. Any materials that are not certified by the Manufacturer in accordance with this <br />section, or that has a hydraulic conductivity greater than that specified in this <br />Section shall be rejected and replaced, at no additional cost to the OWNER. <br />3.3 SURFACE PREPARATION <br />A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for preparing the <br />supporting (subgrade) soil. <br />B. The subgrade shall be prepared in accordance with Section 02300, EARTHWORK. <br />C. The subgrade surface shall be proof -rolled to identify soft zones, and eliminate <br />irregularities, ruts, and abrupt changes in grade. Any unacceptable areas shall be <br />repaired by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR, at no additional cost to the <br />OWNER. <br />3.4 ANCHORAGE SYSTEM <br />A. The anchor trench shall be excavated by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR prior <br />to geosynthetic clay liner placement, to the lines and grades shown on the drawings. <br />B. No loose soil shall be allowed in the anchor trench beneath the geosynthetics. <br />C. The geosynthetic clay liner shall be anchored with compacted general earthfill, as <br />identified on the drawings. <br />D. Care shall be taken when backfilling the trenches to prevent any damage to the <br />Forward Landfill WMU FU -06 7 GEOSYNTHETIC CLAY LINER (GCL) <br />02777 <br />
