P
C. Use test normal stresses of 2,000; 4,000; 8,000; and 12,000.
d. Shear at 0.04 in./min per ASTM D 5321 to post -peak conditions of 3
inches or more.
e. The asperity of the textured HDPE geomembrane used in testing shall
be recorded [GRI - GM 12]. The data shall be submitted with the test
results. The HDPE geomembrane used for shear strength testing shall
be from one of the rolls that will be shipped to the site for
construction of the lining system.
f. The testing laboratory shall submit 4"x4" tested geomembrane and
cushion geotextile sample with the test results to the QA/QC
CONSULTANT. The lot and roll number of the geomembrane should
also be reported.
9. The QA/QC CONSULTANT shall test the interface shear strength of the
Double Sided Textured HDPE Geomembrane and the clay liner in
accordance with the CQA Manual requirements and as described below. The
textured side of the HDPE Geomembrane shall be tested against the clay liner
and shall exhibit an interface shear strength equal to that of the clay liner
alone and having a minimum post -peak (@ 3 -inch or more deformation)
interfacial shear strength that meets the following requirements:
a. Post -peak conditions are defined as the point at which the applied
shear stress remains constant with increasing displacement up to
3 -inch or more. Perform the interface shear strength tests between the
textured HDPE Geomembrane and the clay liner in accordance with
the following:
1) The clay liner soil will be placed in the upper shear box and
compacted to a minimum 90 percent relative compaction at a
moisture content between 3 to 8 percent above optimum in
accordance with ASTM D1557.
2) Spray textured side of site specific HDPE geomembrane with
water. Anchor HDPE on top of lower box and place textured side
of geomembrane against compacted clay liner.
3) The gap between two boxes shall be large enough such that the
clay and HDPE are open so that failure occurs along the weakest
surface.
4) Saturate with water under test normal stress for 24 hours. Use
test normal stresses of 2,000; 4,000; 6,500; 8,000; and 12,000.
5) Shear at 0.04 in./min per ASTM D 5321 to post -peak conditions
of 3 inches or more.
6) The asperity of the textured HDPE geomembrane used in testing
shall be recorded [GRI - GM 12]. The data shall be submitted
Forward Landfill WMU FU -06 HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE
02778 9 (HDPE) GEOMEMBRANE
