Northern Portion of WMU FU-06 August 2006
Forward Landfill Project No.021605.07
4.0 WMU FU-06 CONSTRUCTION
As construction was implemented, Vector performed CQA monitoring. This section
describes the CQA tasks associated with the construction of the earthworks and
geosynthetic components of the northern portion of WMU FU-06.
4.1 Grading and Perimeter Berm
Guinn graded the existing surface to achieve the design grades and constructed a
perimeter berm around the northern portion of WMU FU-06. Grading was kept to a
minimum to maintain the existing final cover. The soil material used for
construction was obtained from an on-site borrow source and transported to the
northern portion of WMU FU-06 by scrapers, placed, and compacted. The perimeter
berm was constructed to the lines and grades shown on the construction drawings.
Vector's CQA monitor observed that the material used to construct the berm did not
have rocks or clods larger than 3 inches. Upon completion of the subgrade and
perimeter berm construction, Guinn and Centerline Land Surveying, Inc. surveyed
the as-built conditions. Centerline completed an as-built survey, including the
perimeter berm and leachate collection trenches, and is included in Appendix G.
4.2 Perimeter Berm Geomembrane
Following construction of the subgrade, a 60-mil smooth HDPE geomembrane was
placed over the temporary perimeter berm. The HDPE geomembrane was supplied
and installed by GSE of Houston, Texas. Vector's CQA Monitor observed the
installation of the geomembrane.
4.2.1 Receiving Inspection
Upon arrival by truck shipment, Vector's CQA monitor observed the unloading and
storage of the geomembrane rolls. Each roll of geomembrane was logged in by roll
number and then crosschecked against the quality control documents provided by
the supplier. Following the inspection and approval of QC certifications, the
Vector Engineering,Inc.•143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley,CA 95945•(530)272-2448
-6-
