Northern Portion of WMU FU-06 August 2006
Forward Landfill Prolect No.021605.07
The holes in the geomembrane resulting from destructive seam sampling were
covered by GSE immediately after sampling. The repair was completed by placing
an extrusion welded patch of the same material. The continuity of the new seams
in the repaired area was tested with the same procedure as described in the vacuum
box testing procedures discussed previously.
Size of Samples - Prior to testing in the laboratory, two samples, one at each end of
the actual sample location, were cut for field-testing. If both specimens passed the
field test, the sample was taken to the laboratory for testing. The size of the
destructive samples was approximately 12 inches wide by 42 inches long.
Laboratory Testing - The samples were taken to Vector's on-site laboratory for
destructive testing of the seam. The samples were tested with a certified,
calibrated tensiometer according to the requirements of ASTM D-6392. After seam
strength tests for the destructive samples were obtained, the results were given
verbally to the Contractor and were also reviewed by Vector's CQA Officer. The
results of the destructive seam tests are presented within Appendix C.
4.2.4 Defects and Repair
Vector's CQA Monitor checked seams and non-seam areas of the geomembrane for
defects, holes, blisters, undispersed raw materials, and for signs of contamination
by foreign matter. Vector's CQA Monitor examined each suspect location. Vector's
CQA Monitor distinctively marked the repair area with a description of the required
type of repair. No materials were placed over the geomembrane until Vector's CQA
Monitor had approved the repair.
The repairs were conducted in accordance with the applicable method specified
within the project specifications. Vector's CQA Monitor reviewed each repair and
Vector Engineering,Inc.•143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley, CA 95945•(530)272-2448
-11-
