Northern Portion of WMU FU-06 August 2006
Forward Landfill Project No.021605.07
® Non-Destructive Seam Continuity Testing
After seaming of the panels was completed, the Contractor's QC technician and
Vector's CQA Monitor inspected the seams and panels for defects. The QC
technician marked defective seams or tears, holes, non-dispersed resin beads or
other defects for repair. The air pressure test method was used for double wedge-
welded seams and the vacuum box for extruded seams for seam continuity testing.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the non-destructive seam continuity testing and
repairs performed by GSE to ensure that the seams were satisfactory. The air
pressure test logs for the wedge-welded seams are presented in the seaming log in
Appendix C.
Destructive Seam Testing
General - In addition to non-destructive testing, destructive samples were obtained
at random locations to evaluate seam strength and integrity. The samples were
tested for shear strength and peel strength (ASTM D6392).
Location and Frequency — Vector's CQA Monitor selected the locations of
approximately one sample per 500 linear feet of seam. Within the northern portion
of WMU FU-06 a total of one (1) destructive sample was collected and tested from
approximately 250 linear feet of seam, resulting in a frequency of 1 test per 250
linear feet. Additional destructive samples were obtained if there were failures or if
there was an indication of overheating, contamination, or other adverse conditions.
Sampling Procedure - GSE cut the samples as directed by Vector's CQA Monitor.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the cutting and assigned sample numbers, and
reviewed sample information (sample number, seam number, seaming apparatus,
operator identification, location, date, and time welded). Vector's CQA Monitor
recorded the samples collected and sample location on the panel layout drawing.
Vector Engineering,Inc.• 143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley, CA 95945•(530)272-2448
-10-
