Sampling Equipment
Interim gas sampling probes were used to monitor sabs'tnrfaceries at the landfill
g perimeter.
Each Proms consists of a 5-foot long, YAnch diameter stainless steelP'i ,
pe, with Y4 inch holes
staggexed every 2 inches at the bottom 1 g niches to allow for gases to migrate into the probes, q
pointed tip was welded to the end of the probe for better penetration.
A ball valve and brass fitting were instaed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate instrument hook-up to the probe. The valves were lett closed etc t during monitoring
or instrument reading- Each probe is tagged with-a brass plate and id
"GP-10". entified as "GP-1" through
AGA-90 Landtec Infra-red-Gas Analyzer was used to monitor methane, carbon.dioxide.(Co-,),
and oxygen (OD levels at each probe location. The analyzer was calibrated for methane, COz,and
02 prior to use in the field_Calibration.logs are.included.in this report,
Gas Monitoring
a
Ambient air measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide; and bammeWc•pressure•wem }
taken at each gas probe location_ Those readings were recorded and-the fiLstrument, was
connected to the probe- The valve was opened and probe.gas pressure moments were taken.
The probe was then. purged fortwo. probe volumes. gs-were then Bollat
ajjpro)iy 3.0- to60-second in ,•until__a stable reading was .obtained.: These
measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ambient barometric pressure wire then
marded. Monitoring was also conducted at various locations in dure 'building sites for the
presence of methane, gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
12ndf 11, trailer boxes- at the service shop, and trailer boxes at the transfer building. These
locations were monitored for any gas packeu at the foundation and nearany opening from the
floor such as piping holes, electrical conduits,or.floor cracks.
LYSIMETERS
Lysimetcrs were sampled using the following standard protocol:
1- Prior to sampling lysimeters, the pressure-vacuum equipment is checked.'and cleaned.
