The ash is disposed directly in the appropriate WMUs, following the general landfill operation procedures discussed previously. Ash piles are spread within the WMUs with a bulldozer or a front-end loader. Forward employees working within the ash disposal area include only the dozer and water truck operators. These personnel wear protective clothing and air purifying respirators. Air sampling performed in the ash area by Pickering Environmental Consultants (December 1990) determined that total nuisance dust samples in this area are well below CAL/OSHA permissible standards. 6.4.8.5 TREATED WOOD WASTE DISPOSAL METHODS The disposal of treated wood waste at the Forward Landfill requires preapproval by Forward prior to acceptance. In order to process a request for the disposal of treated wood waste, one or more of the following must be submitted: • Analytical results from a state-certified laboratory for: (a) Fish Bioassay (b) Pentachlorophenol (TCLP) (c) o-Cresol, m-Cresol, p-Cresol (TCLP) (d) Arsenic, total and soluble (if applicable) (e) Any other applicable metals, total and soluble • Laboratory Chain-of-Custody forms. • A fully completed waste characterization form, signed by the generator. Acceptable treated wood wastes are disposed in the landfill in the same manner as other commercial wastes. No salvaging or recovery of treated wood waste is permitted. If treated wood wastes are observed in the recycling area, they are separated and subjected to the preacceptance procedure.
