First Quarter 2007 Groundwater Treatment
Facility Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill WDR Order No. R5-2003-0080
1.0 Summary
This First Quarter 2007 Monitoring Report for the Forward Incorporated (Forward) Landfill
Groundwater Treatment Facility (GTF)presents the monitoring results for influent and
effluent. This report was prepared as stipulated by the Central Valley Regional Water
Quality Control Board (CV Water Board) Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) Order
No. R5-2003-0080,which was adopted on April 25, 2001
Following review of the information presented in this document, the following conclusions
have been made:
® The GTF operated for 2,189 hours between December 27,2006,and March 31,2007,at
96.4 percent uptime, and treated 25.378 million gallons of groundwater. During this
period, the GTF removed approximately 3.1 pounds of volatile organic compounds
1 (VOC).
• During first quarter 2007, effluent samples collected in January,February, and March
met WDR Order No. R5-2003-0080 for VOCs. No VOCs were detected.
• An apparent leak in the buried groundwater conveyance pipeline was repaired on
January 9,2007. The leak was located approximately 400 to 450 feet east of Extraction
Well (EW)-2. EW-2 was restarted on January 11,2007.
• A leak occurred inside the pipe vault adjacent to EW-2 on March 21,2007.EW-2 was
turned off and the pipeline between EW-1 and EW-2 was isolated on March 21,2007,to
prevent further leaks. The leak was caused by a cracked check valve inside the vault.
Repairs to the piping inside the vault are scheduled for the week of April 2,2007.
2.0 Operational Summary
The GTF operated for 2,189 hours between December 27, 2006,and March 31, 2007, at
96.4 percent uptime, and treated 25.378 million gallons of groundwater at an average flow
rate of 193 gallons per minute, or 0.278 million gallon per day. During this period, the GTF
removed approximately 3.1 pounds of VOCs. Table 1 presents the monthly average effluent
flow rates in gallons per day.
i
RDDl071060007(NLH3445.DOC) i
