4.0 POST-CLOSURE MAINTENANCE PLAN <br /> 4.1 INTRODUCTION <br /> Post-closure maintenance of the closed Forward Landfill will be performed in <br /> accordance with applicable regulatory standards included in 27 CCR, Chapters 3 <br /> and 4, and 40 CFR Section 258.61. Post-closure maintenance activities for the <br /> Forward Landfill will consist of: <br /> • Final Cover Maintenance <br /> • Drainage System Maintenance <br /> • Vegetative Cover Maintenance <br /> • Leachate Control System Maintenance <br /> • Gas Monitoring and Control Systems Maintenance <br /> • Groundwater Monitoring System Maintenance <br /> • Access Road Maintenance <br /> • Site Security Inspection and Maintenance <br /> • Landfill Settlement Monitoring and Monument Maintenance <br /> The maintenance procedures for each of these activities are described in the <br /> following sections. <br /> 4.2 FINAL COVER MAINTENANCE <br /> The integrity and effectiveness of the final cover will be maintained by making <br /> repairs, if necessary, to correct the effects of settlement, subsidence, erosion, or <br /> damage to the vegetation. Areas that show evidence of damage will be <br /> investigated to ascertain the cause of the damage before repairs are undertaken. If <br /> the damaged areas have caused ponding of surface runoff, soil will be added as <br /> needed and regraded until positive drainage is re-established. If the repaired area <br /> is large enough, it will be revegetated.
