WMUs FU-03, FU-04, FU-05, and FU-06 are located directly south of the former
Austin Road Landfill. The southern portion of these WMUs is permitted to
receive designated wastes. These units were constructed to meet prescriptive
Class II regulatory requirements for base liners and LCRSs and contain the same
system described above for WMUs D-93 to D-02.
The northern portion of WMUs FU-03 to FU-06 overlies the top deck of the
former Austin Road Landfill. Only Class III refuse is permitted to be placed
above the top deck of the former Austin Road Landfill. An LCRS was added to
the top deck final cover to allow leachate from the refuse placed above the top
deck to drain into the Class II WMUs to the south. The liner and LCRS system
for the refuse placed on the top deck consists of (from top to bottom):
• 1-ft thick Operations Layer
• Filter Geotextile
• 0.5-ft thick granular drainage material with dendritic LCRS pipe system
• Filter Geotextile
• 1-ft thick Vegetative Layer (part of final cover with vegetation stripped)
• 1-ft thick low permeability layer (permeability less than 1 x 10-6 cm/sec)
® 2-ft thick foundation layer
Interface liners are placed to separate the Class II refuse in the southern portion
of WMUs FU-03 to FU-06 from the Class III refuse located in the former Austin
Road Landfill. The interface liners consist of the same components described
above for WMU D-94.
4.1.2 FUTURE PERMITTED WASTE MANAGEMENT UNITS
During the winter of 2007/2008 refuse fill operations were proceeding in the
FU-06 refuse cell located in the northern portion of the site. Placement of the
next lift of waste will then proceed west toward FU-03. FL currently plans to
continue constructing cells and filling the northern portion of the site to capacity
before moving the operation to the area south of the South Creek.
Forward Landfill- Project Description 4-4 BRYAN A.STIRRAT&ASSOCIATES
(J:\Allied\Forward\2007.0018 Lateral Expansion\Reports\Prof Descrip\021308 Final Proj Des\Sec 4.doc:2/13/2008)
