1
The deployment methods and documentation of the DST and the SST HDPE liners were the same.
Therefore, Ausenco Vector CQA documentation procedures and testing described below pertains to
both material types.
5.3.1.1 Receiving Inspection
Upon arrival by truck shipment, the Ausenco Vector CQA monitor observed the unloading and
storage of the geomembrane rolls. As each roll was unloaded from the delivery truck the roll number
was recorded in the Receiving Logs, and then crosschecked with the manufacture's quality control
documents (MQC Certifications) provided by the liner manufacturer. These documents were
reviewed by the Ausenco Vector Engineer of Record. Following this review the material was
approved for deployment. A copy of the Receiving Logs and MQC certificates are included in
Appendix I.
5.3.1.2 CQA Conformance Testing
Select samples of the HDPE were cut from random rolls of the geomembrane at the manufacturing
plant by the third party testing laboratory for conformance testing in accordance with the project
specifications and CQA manual. Conformance testing included:
• density (ASTM D-1505);
• carbon black content (ASTM D-4218);
• carbon black dispersion (ASTM D-5596);
• thickness (ASTM D-5994);
• tensile properties (ASTM D-6693);
• asperity height (GRI GM -12); and
• interface shear strength testing.
A total of six (6) 60 -mil thick HDPE geomembrane samples were tested for conformance. The six
samples consist of four (4) for the double -sided geomembrane and two (2) for the single sided
geomembrane. Based on 433,620 ft2 of HDPE received, this testing frequency corresponds to one
test per 72,270 ft2 which satisfies the requirement of one test per 100,000 ft2. Results of the
conformance testing indicated that the materials met the requirements of the project specifications.
In addition, large-scale direct shear testing was conducted on the clay/geomembrane and
geomembrane/geotextile interfaces (the GCL interface shear testing is discussed in Section 5.1).
Results of the conformance testing indicated that the materials met the requirements of the project
specifications. A summary of the conformance test results is included in Table 8. Detailed test
results including the geomembrane/geotextile interface shear tests are included in Appendix I.
5.3.2 Geomembrane Installation
5.3.2.1 Geomembrane Deployment
Surface Preparation: Prior to installation of the HDPE, Vectors CQA Monitor inspected that the
GCL has been installed as specified by the project specifications and there was no change in surface
condition that required repair work
Layout Drawing: The liner contractor, COMANCO, submitted a proposed panel layout drawing that
showed the general panel configurations and dimensions. These drawings were reviewed and
Date: October 2010
USVC0004800
Final Construction Quality Assurance Report 17
