Leachate samples were collected on a monthly basis and analyzed in the field for pH,
specific conductance, and temperature.. In addition,to monthly monitoring, leachate is
sampled annually during the fourth quarter monitoring period for the parameters listed in
Table 2-1. Results of monthly field monitoring measurements, and analytical results for
the fourth quarter 2011 are presented in Table 2-6. As shown on Table 2-6, eight
dissolved metal constituents were detected, and two VOCs were detected(with one
measured above its PQL). No semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), herbicides, or
pesticides were detected in the annual leachate sample. The results of the annual leachate
sample indicate that there were no new COCs detected above the PQL, and as a result,
verification testing is not required.
2.1.7 Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface water
to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager, there
were no discharges to surface water during the reporting quarter. During the fourth
quarter 2011 monitoring period, both surface-water monitoring stations FS W-1 and
FSW-2 were reported dry by Del-Tech on November 2, 2011.
2.2 SUMMARY
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the fourth quarter 2011
monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring periods.
During the fourth quarter 2011 monitoring period, DIPS was measured above its PQL in
the sample collected from well MW-16. In addition, the following VOCs were measured
at estimated trace concentrations, DIPE in the sample collected from well MW-2A;
acetone and DCDFM in the sample collected from well MW-10; and 1,1-DCA, cis-1,2-
DCE, DCDFM, PCE, TCE, and TCFM in the samples collected from well MW-14. CLs
were exceeded for one or more constituents in wells MW-10, MW-15, MW-16, and MW-
22. Excluding non-impact constituents and VOCs, confirmation sampling will be
performed in February 2012 during the first quarter 2012 monitoring event, and in March
2012. The results of the confirmation sampling will be provided under separate cover.
The fourth quarter 2011 leachate monitoring results are generally similar to those
observed historically. During the monitoring period, eight dissolved metal constituents
were detected and two VOCs were detected (with one VOC measured above its PQL).
No SVOCs, herbicides, or pesticides were detected in the annual leachate sample. The
results from the annual leachate sample indicate that there were no new COCs detected.
c:\zon-0050\Fn_aQILdoc 7 Geo-Logic Associates
