A schematic illustration of typical LFGTE facility building elevations is provided as Figure 2-3
and typical facility photographs are provided as Figure 2-4. The building is approximately 24-$
high and will sit on existing ground at an elevation of approximately 40 feet above mean sea
level (MSL).
2.3 Facility Construction
The LFGTE facility will take approximately seven months to construct. It is currently planned to
start construction in March of 2012 and be operational in December of 2012.
Prior to construction, a detailed geotechnical report will be prepared. The geotechnical
investigation will evaluate the onsite soils and will provide recommendations for the building
foundation. A seismic assessment will also be performed and recommendations provided.
During construction, approximately 4,000 cubic yards (CY) of excavation will be required in
order to replace the current soil with engineered fill for the building/equipment foundations and
access roads. Fill material will be obtained from onsite excavations. Excess excavated soil not
needed for fill on the site will be used for general landfill operations.
Construction hours are proposed to be consistent with the landfill operation hours. While some
additional traffic will occur during construction, it will mainly be for the occasional delivery of
equipment and the contractor's crew.
Ameresco will work with local utility companies to supply power from the LFGTE engines to
the power grid. The power line connection will occur off of the existing PG&E distribution line
providing electrical service to the flare station. No new electrical transmission line will need to
be added to connect to the power grid, although PG&E will have to upgrade some of their power
lines, poles and equipment to accommodate the project.
2.4 Facility Operations
Facilityoperations will begin once the LFGTE facilityhas been constructed and all permits have
been obtained. The LFGTE facility is planned to operate 24 hrs/day, 7 days/wk. It will be
staffed by 1 operator who will be at the facility from approximately 8 am to 5 pm. Alarms and
sensors are incorporated within the LFGTE facility to alert the operator of any equipment or
operations issues. Lighting is provided during night time hours using a light stand with
downward shielding to prevent glare.
Maintenance of the LFGTE facility is ongoing; however, the LFGTE facility is periodically
taken offline for major maintenance for 1-3 days. This type of outage is extremely rare as the
plant is designed with backup equipment to allow continued operation during maintenance. A
total plant outage is more typically caused by the utility due to weather related causes or planned
maintenance work requiring the plant to be offline. During these times, the LFG is routed to the
existing LFG flare.
r
C:DocumentsandSettingsyssicasees\DesktopTon dLFGM-Project Description.doc
CORNERSTONE 2-2 LEWIS ENGINEERING
Ea Iraamc-1 G. ap.LLC
