temporal trends were calculated for barium and chloride concentrations in wells AMW-
12 and AMW-14. In the CAP wells, trend analyses are performed instead of comparison
to CLs. During the current monitoring period, statistically significant increasing trends
were noted for three VOCs in CAP well AMW-1,while decreasing VOC trends were
noted for one or more VOCs in CAP wells AMW-1, AMW-4,AMW-10,AMW-11, and
AMW-19BR. The decreasing(organic and inorganic)trends noted in most of the CAP
wells, suggests that corrective action measures have been successful in reducing facility
related groundwater impacts downgradient of the Austin Unit.
Surface water samples dry during the current monitoring period.
4.0 ANNUAL SUMMARY
4.1 GENERAL
During the 2013 monitoring year, groundwater elevations and groundwater and surface
water sampling was performed at the Forward Landfill on a quarterly basis. The
groundwater and surface water samples were analyzed for the monitoring parameters
summarized in Table 2-1, and a tabular summary of the 2013 annual monitoring data is
provided in Appendix C,which includes the five-year COC sampling event performed
during the first quarter 2013. Time-series plots and stiff diagrams depicting groundwater
and surface water constituent concentrations, are presented in Appendix D. In addition,
well hydrographs illustrating historical groundwater elevations, well screen elevations,
® and pump intake elevations are also included in Appendix D.
According to the Forward Landfill Operations Manager,Forward Landfill received a total
of 792,125 tons of solid waste during the 2013 monitoring year. Figure 1-2 shows the
approximate location of waste placement during 2013 monitoring year. The following
types of waste were received:
Non-hazardous solid waste—776,316 tons
Asbestos—2,991 tons
Sewage and wastewater treatment sludge— 12,818 tons
4.2 LANDFILL GAS MONITORING
The CEHD performs monthly inspections at the Forward Landfill for methane
concentrations in perimeter soil-pore gas probes. No perimeter gas probes exceeded the
regulatory limit of 5 percent at the Forward Landfill during the 2013 monitoring year. In
accordance with CCR 27, Section 20937(a) (1), methane monitors are installed in all
buildings at the site to protect public health and safety and the environment. During the
2013 monitoring year, no methane was detected in any of the facilities buildings.
CA2013-0021\FA_4Q13.dm 13 Geo-Logic Associates
