Sampling Equipment
Interim gas sampling probes were used to monitor subsurface gases at the landfill
Each probe consists of a S -flat long, Y2 -inch steel diameter stainlessperimeter.
pipe, with Y4 -inch holes
staggered every 2 inches at the bottom 18 inches to allow, for gases -to migrate into the proms. A
pointed tip was welded to the end of the probe for better penetration.
A bail valve and brass fitting were installed_ at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate; instruznem hook-up to the probe.. a ves wee:: left closed race t during ung monitoring
or instrument reading. Each probe is tagged -with a brass plate and identified as "GP -I" through
" Cip-10".
A GA -90 Landtec Infra -red -Gas Analyzer was used to monitor methane, carbon. dioxide. (COQ,
and oxygen (O=) levels at each probe location. 7he analyzer was calibrated for methane, COI, and
Oz prior to use in the field_ Calibration. logs are_included.in this report
Gas monitoring
Ambient air measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide; and barom A
eiic•press<tce•were
taken at each gas probe location. Those readings Were recorded and - the instrument- was
connected to the probe. The valve was opened robe.gas pressure measurements were taken_
The probe was them purged fortwo prize volumes_ . Readings • were then collected at
aPPrOXinately 30- to 60 second intervals. ' ._a stablereading was -obtained... 1hcse
measurements of methane, oxo'gen, carbon dinxide, and ambient barometric pr=um were then
recorded Monitoring was also conducted at various locations in three building sites for the
Presence of methane gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
landfill, trailer boxes- at the service shop, and Uzilcr boxes at the transfer building. These
locations wero monitored for any gas packets at the foundation and near any opening from the
floor such as piping holes, eiectrical conduits, or Poor cracks.
Ntt
Lysimetcis were sampled using the following standard protocol:
l . Prior to saampling lysitneters; the Pr== -Vacuum equipment is checked- and cleaned.
23-483849-FQI\2314R32i A»12
C 7yrf& M KkkteCtdCr, tai hdy 14.2000
