Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
3.1.7 Domestic Well Monitoring
Two domestic wells (7898-A and 8106-A) were sampled on April 17, 2014. Table 3-5
summarizes the current analytical results for the domestic well samples collected.
Tetrachloroethene was measured above the PQL in both domestic well samples and cis-
1,2-dichloroethene, dichlorodifluoromethane, and trichloroethene was also measured
above PQLs in the sample collected from well 8106-A. An estimated trace concentration
of one VOC was also measured in the sample from each domestic well
3.1.8 Vadose Zone Monitoring
The current vadose-zone monitoring network at the Austin Unit consists of seven
lysimeters. The lysimeter locations are shown on Figure 2-1. As recorded in the field
notes for lysimeters (Appendix F) and summarized on Table 2-5A, all Austin Unit
lysimeters were reported dry, and as a result, no soil-pore liquid samples were collected
during the current monitoring period.
3.1.9 Leachate/Surface Impoundment Monitoring;
For the Austin Unit, leachate sumps and surface impoundments are inspected weekly by
Forward Landfill personnel. If leachate is detected in a sump, it is pumped into the
surface impoundment WMU F (West) for evaporation. During the second quarter 2014,
leachate was observed at holding areas WMU FU-03, WMU FU-04, WMU FU-05, WMU
FU-06, WMU FU-10, and WMU FU-13 and a total of 89,080 gallons of leachate was
removed from the lined areas at an average rate of 979 gallons per day. For surface
impoundment WMU-F (West) Freeboard ranged from approximately 2.32 to 2.70 feet
during the second quarter 2014 monitoring period. Appendix A presents copies of the
leachate observation logs, freeboard observation logs, and dissolved oxygen
measurements.
Leachate samples were collected on a quarterly basis and analyzed in the field for pH,
specific conductance, temperature, and turbidity. The results of quarterly field
monitoring measurements for the second quarter 2014 are presented in Table 3-7.
3.1.10 Surface Water Monitoring;
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface
water to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager,
there were no discharges to surface water (waters of the United States) during the
reporting period. Surface water monitoring stations ASW-1 (upstream) and ASW-2
(downstream) were reported dry during the second quarter 2014 monitoring period.
M:\2014.0012\FA_2Q14rev.docx 12
9/5/2014,Rev.1
