Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
from five wells (EW -1, EW -2, EW -3, EW -311, and EW -4) that pump groundwater through
is an air stripper treatment system to remove VOCs. Treated groundwater is discharged to
an infiltration pond (constructed in 2003) north of the Austin Road Unit of the Forward
Landfill. Due to limited recharge in extraction well EW -3, the well was taken offline and
replaced with extraction well EW -3R. To increase the volume of groundwater recovered
in this area, well EW -3R was installed adjacent to and deeper than well EW -3. During
the monitoring period, the GTF treated 24,382,500 gallons of groundwater at an
average flow rate of 276,618 gallons per day. During the monitoring period, GLA
calculated that the GTF removed approximately 2.62 pounds of VOCs. Del Tech
reported that the electrical breakers for extraction wells EW -311 and EW -4 were tripped
during the January 14, 2014 inspection, and subsequently reset. No other downtime
was reported for the extraction wells or GTF during the first quarter 2014 monitoring
period and no maintenance activities were performed. Details regarding the operations
and maintenance are presented in Appendix C.
n
3.2 Summary
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Austin Unit during the first quarter 2014
monitoring period were generally similar to historical results. During the current
monitoring period, no VOCs were identified at DMP wells. For the routine inorganic
monitoring parameters, the CL for calcium was exceeded in DMP well AMW-7.
However, a statistically significant increasing temporal trend was not calculated for
calcium concentrations in well AMW-7. For the CAP/Evaluation wells, 11 wells reported
one or more VOCs exceeding a PQL, with CAP well AMW-1 having the greatest number
of VOCs (11), including seven measured above a PQL. Surface water stations were dry
during the current monitoring period.
M:\ 2014.0012\FA_1Q14.docx 13
4/28/2014, Rev. 0
