Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
samples collected from the upstream and downstream surface water monitoring
411 stations during the fourth quarter 2014 monitoring period are generally consistent with
each other and no VOCs were detected. With the exception of FU -04W all of the
lysimeters were reported dry. However, there was insufficient soil pore liquid from FU -
04W for analysis.
•
Under the existing CAP, the GTF pumped 23.9 million gallons of groundwater removing
an estimated 1.19 pounds of VOCs (Herst, 2014).
4.0 ANNUAL SUMMARY
4.1 General
During the 2014 monitoring year, groundwater elevations and groundwater and surface
water sampling was performed at the Forward Landfill on a quarterly basis. The
groundwater and surface water samples were analyzed for the monitoring parameters
summarized in Table 2-1, and a tabular summary of the 2014 annual monitoring data is
provided in Appendix F and electronically in Excel (via email). Time -series plots and
piper diagrams depicting groundwater and surface water constituent concentrations are
presented in Appendix G. In addition, well hydrographs illustrating historical
groundwater elevations, well screen elevations, and pump intake elevations are also
included in Appendix G.
According to the Forward Landfill Operations Manager, Forward Landfill received a total
of 808,161 tons of solid waste during the 2014 monitoring year. Figure 1-2 shows the
approximate location of waste placement during 2014 monitoring year. In addition, the
compost facility received 34,531 tons of green waste and produced 12,902 tons of
compost.
4.2 Landfill Gas Monitoring
The SCS performs quarterly inspections at the Forward Landfill for methane
concentrations in perimeter soil -pore gas probes. During the 2014 monitoring year no
perimeter gas probes exceeded the regulatory limit of 5 percent at the Forward Landfill
and no on-site structures were in excess of 1.25 percent by volume in air. In accordance
with CCR 27, Section 20937(a) (1), methane monitors are installed in all buildings at the
site to protect public health and safety and the environment. During the 2014
monitoring year, no methane was detected in any of the facilities buildings.
4.3 Compliance Record
No notices of violation (NOV) were noted during the 2014 monitoring year.
M:\ 2014.0012\FA_4Q14.docx 14
1/28/2015, Rev. 0
