geomembrane following placement of the overlying earthwork and
geosynthetic materials. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall remove
all earthwork and geosynthetic materials overlying the geomembrane to the
extent required to repair the leak and shall repair all identified leaks in the
geomembrane at his sole expense. Following the repair of the leak in the
geomembrane, the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall replace all
earthwork and geosynthetic materials at his sole expense. All Work
performed to repair and replace materials shall be performed in accordance
with the applicable Specifications sections.
B. Placing Requirements:
1. All synthetic materials underlying the Protective Operations Layer will be
inspected and approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT prior to placement
of soil material.
2. Deposit material in lifts not less than 12-inches in depth (after compaction).
Do not operate placement equipment over the underlying GDM and
geotextile with less than 12-inches of Protective Operations Layer in place.
3. Protective Operations Layer shall be placed in continuous and
approximately horizontal lifts for their full length and width using track-
type dozers unless otherwise specifically permitted by the DESIGN
ENGINEER or QA/QC CONSULTANT.
4. Method of dumping and spreading materials shall ensure uniform
distribution of the material.
5. No discing, ripping, or other mixing of the soil will be permitted within
12 inches of synthetic materials.
C. Compaction Requirements: Compact using a minimum of two passes of a track-
type dozer unless otherwise approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT or DESIGN
ENGINEER prior to the start of Work. Approval does not absolve the
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR of responsibilities for damage to the underlying
geomembrane lining and geotextile, at EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole
expense.
D. Quality Control:
1. Particle Size Tests: Particle size tests may be performed by the QA/QC
CONSULTANT on the Protective Operations Layer. If particle size does
not meet specifications, terminate placement and take corrective action prior
to continuing placement.
Forward Landfill WMU FU-14
02300 24 EARTHWORK
