3.12 GEOTEXTILE <br /> A. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall place filter geotextile around coarse <br /> gravel and above granular drainage material layer in accordance with <br /> Section 02771, GEOTEXTILES, of these Specifications. <br /> 3.13 PROTECTIVE OPERATIONS LAYER <br /> A. General Requirements: <br /> 1. Protective Operations Layer shall be constructed of generally sandy <br /> materials excavated onsite and shall be placed and compacted to the lines <br /> and grades shown on the Construction Drawings or as required by the <br /> QA/QC CONSULTANT. <br /> 2. If any portion of the materials placed as Protective Operations Layer does <br /> not meet the specified requirements, the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR <br /> shall remove such material and replace it with materials meeting the <br /> Specification at no additional cost to the OWNER. <br /> 3. The constructed Protective Operations Layer shall be maintained to meet the <br /> requirements of this Specification until final completion and acceptance of <br /> the Work. This shall include all measures to prevent erosion. During <br /> seasonal or other extended shutdowns, all exposed surfaces shall be <br /> protected with special treatments specified in Article 3.1, PROTECTION <br /> OF EXPOSED SURFACES, above. <br /> 4. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall repair any geosynthetics <br /> damaged during fill placement at no cost to the OWNER. <br /> 2. Additional cover of Protective Operations Layer shall be provided over the <br /> granular drainage material encapsulating the HDPE piping. For crossing <br /> points, the area above the perforated leachate collection pipe shall be <br /> covered with a minimum of 2.5 feet of Protective Operations Layer. <br /> 3. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall notify the OWNER at least 3 <br /> working days in advance of when a layer is completed and ready for as-built <br /> surveys. The OWNER will perform the as-built survey of the top of the <br /> Protective Operations Layer to determine that the required minimum <br /> thickness has been achieved. The survey shall be performed in accordance <br /> with Section 01410, SURVEYS, and shall provide coordinates and <br /> elevations of the surface at the established 75-foot grid and delineating <br /> prominent features such as the edge of GDM. The QA/QC CONSULTANT <br /> shall have 2 working days to review survey results and may independently <br /> verify survey results. The time taken by the CQA Team in checking and <br /> verifying the survey results will be considered included in the total calendar <br /> days allotted the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR before liquidated <br /> damages are assessed. <br /> 8. A leak location test will be performed on the geomembrane before and after <br /> placement of the granular drainage material and protective operations layer. <br /> The GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for repairing <br /> all identified leaks in the geomembrane prior to placement of the overlying <br /> earthwork and geosynthetic materials. The EARTHWORK <br /> CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for repairing all identified leaks in the <br /> Forward Landfill WMU FU-14 <br /> 02300 23 EARTHWORK <br />
