® and the cannery waste operation was conducted in a manner that prevents odor and vermin
harborage. Observations requiring corrective action as well as corrective action taken were
documented as necessary.
r s7
Forward collected representative soil samples at the beginning and end of the land application
period. Forward also collected daily wet weight and weekly composite waste samples from each
cannery waste source. Samples were analyzed for biological oxygen demand, total dissolved solids,
and total nitrogen. Weekly total mass of nitrogen applied per acre was calculated. These data have
been included in the quarterly groundwater reports for submittal to the Regional Water Quality
Control Board.
At the end of the cannery season, the total mass of nitrogen applied per acre was determined (see
attached table), and the land application area was cropped with wheat in November 2015, which will
be grown and harvested to uptake nitrogen applied during the 2015 cannery season.
In accordance with Waste Discharge Requirements Order No. R5-2014-0006, Forward will submit a
Micronutrient Management Plan prior to the next cannery season to document that one hundred
percent of the applied nitrogen from year 2015 cannery season has been removed and to review
and revise, as necessary, the site -speck loading rate established during the initial season.
GROUNDWATER DETECTION MONITORING SYSTEM
The existing groundwater detection monitoring system will be utilized in accordance with Waste
Discharge Requirements Order No. R5-2014-0006 to monitor the land application area. Samples
are collected by Del -tech and analyzed by Geo -Logic Associates. This system will be utilized to
ensure that land application of cannery wastes will not cause groundwater to contain waste
constituents in concentrations statistically greater than background quality; exhibit a pH of less than
6.5 or greater than 8.4 pH units; or contain taste or odor -producing constituents, toxic substances, or
any other constituents in concentrations that cause nuisance or adversely affect beneficial uses.
Any necessary modifications to this system will be reviewed and approved by the Regional Water
Quality Control Board.
If you have questions or comments regarding the above information, please contact me at (209)
227-9531.
Kindest regards,
Erin Fanning
Environmental Manager
cc: Kevin Basso
Don Litchfield
Enclosure
9999 South Austin Road
Manteca, CA 95336
(209) 982-4298 / (209) 982-1009 fax
EFannin.g(&-republicservices. com
