Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
m separate cover. On behalf of Forward Inc., GLA performed an assessment of the source
w and potential impacts of low-level VOCs in groundwater adjacent to the Forward
Landfill. |twas concluded that the sporadic detection oflow-level VOCs ingroundwater
(and |ysinneter samples) at the Forward Unit are most likely due to landfill gas from
unlined unit VVMU-B. Forward has continued to minimize gas related impacts to
groundwater by preventing ponding of water through regular site maintenance.
Furthermore, in accordance with CCR Title 27, Section 20837, Forward continues to
install additional landfill gas extraction wells, a3needed.
Concentration Limit Thresholds
In accordance with RVVQCB Order No. 115-2014-0006, the routine inorganic monitoring
data obtained from the Forward Unit during the second quarter 20l5monitoring period
were compared to intnaxve|| concentration limits (CLs) established for each vve||. Details
on the statistical analysis for the established [Ls are presented in Appendix G of the
fourth quarter 2014 Water Quality Monitoring Report for the Forward Landfill (GLA,
2014). ASsummarized inTable 2-4, the following [L6were exceeded during the second
quarter ZO15monitoring period.
^
MW'2A—pH (field)
° MVV-3—barium
= K8VV-14—pH (field)
- ° MVV-l8—bicarbonate
° MVV- 23R—pH (field)
In B letter dated July 16, 3015, the RVVCCB was notified of these CL euceeclances and
retesting is scheduled for July 2015. The results of the verification sampling will be
reported under separate cover.
2.1.5 Vaclose Zone Monitoring
The current vaclose-zone monitoring network at the Forward Unit consists of 10
|ysirne1ers (seven suction |ysirneters and three pan |ysirneters)' These |ysirneter
locations are shown on Figure 2-1. As shown on Table 2-5A, samples were collected
from LY-8G-1 and pan lysinoeterVVK4U D'OlN, all other |ysirneterswere reported dry' As
summarized on Table 2-58, 11 VOCs were detected (six above 3 PQL\ in the soil-pore
liquid sample collected from pan |ysirnet8ru VVK8U D-01N during the monitoring period.
For pan |ysirneterVV&4U-DO1N, approximately 1670 gallons of liquid were pumped from
the pan and discharged tosurface impoundment VVK4UF /North\.
Leachate sumps and surface impoundments are inspected weekly byForward Landfill
personnel. If leachate is detected in a sump, it is pumped into the surface
Kx:\ZO1S.UU14\FA2Q15.dncx 7
7/91/201S' Rev.O
