Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
isimpoundment WMU F (North) for evaporation. During the second quarter 2015,
leachate was observed at holding areas WMU D-89, WMU D-93/94, WMU D-01 N/S, and
WMU D-02 and a total of 542,200 gallons of leachate was removed from the lined areas
at an average rate of 5958 gallons per day. For surface impoundment WMU-F (North),
freeboard ranged from approximately 9.58 to 10.25 feet during the second quarter 2015
monitoring period. Appendix A presents copies of the leachate observation logs,
freeboard observation logs, and surface impoundment monitoring log.
Leachate samples are analyzed in the field for pH, specific conductance, temperature,
and turbidity on a quarterly basis. Results of quarterly field monitoring measurements
for the second quarter 2015 are presented in Table 2-6.
2.1.7 Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface
water to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager,
there were no discharges from the Forward Unit to surface water during the reporting
period. On May 19, 2015, surface water monitoring stations FSW-1 (downstream) and
FSW-2 (upstream) were reported dry.
2.2 Summary
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the second quarter
2015 monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring
periods. A non-statistical indication of release was identified at wells MW-16 as a result
of one VOC measured at a quantifiable concentration, and one VOC measured at
estimated-trace concentration; and at well MW-17 as a result of one VOC measured at a
quantifiable concentration, and three VOCs measured at estimated-trace
concentrations. For the inorganic monitoring parameters, CLs were exceeded at wells
MW-2A, MW-3, MW-14, MW-18, and MW-23R. Verification sampling for the organic
and inorganic CL exceedances is scheduled for July 2015. Surface water stations were
reported dry during the second quarter 2015 monitoring period. For vadose zone
monitoring up to 11 VOCs were detected in soil-pore liquid samples and approximately
1670 gallons of liquid was pumped from pan lysimeter WMU-D01N.
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 Water Quality Monitoring
3.1.1 Sampling and Laboratory Analyses
Del-Tech performed routine monitoring of DMP, CAP, EMP wells at the Austin Unit
during the second quarter 2015 monitoring period. Depth-to-water measurements
were recorded in the groundwater monitoring wells on May 26, 2015 and all
M:\2015.0014\FA 2Q15.docx g
7/31/2015, Rev.0
