Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
monitoring period. Appendix A presents copies of the leachate observation logs,
freeboard observation logs, and surface impoundment monitoring log.
Leachate samples are analyzed in the field for pH, specific conductance, temperature,
and turbidity on a quarterly basis. In addition to the quarterly monitoring, leachate was
sampled for the annual list of list of parameters listed in Table 2-1. Results of quarterly
field monitoring measurements for the first quarter 2015 and annual analytical results
are presented in Table 2-6.
2.1.7 Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface
water to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager,
there were no discharges from the Forward Unit to surface water during the reporting
period. Surface water monitoring stations FSW-1 (downstream) and FSW-2 (upstream)
were sampled on February 25, 2015 for the first quarter 2015 monitoring period. Table
2-7 summarizes the current analytical results of surface water samples collected at the
Forward Unit. As shown on Table 2-7, no VOCs were detected in either sample, and no
CLs were exceeded for FSW-1.
2.2 Summary
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the first quarter 2015
monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring
periods. A non-statistical indication of release was identified at well MW-13 as a result
of one VOC measured at a quantifiable concentration, and at well MW-14 as a result of
three VOCs measured at estimated-trace concentrations. No other VOCs were detected
in groundwater samples during the first quarter 2015 monitoring period. For the
inorganic monitoring parameters, one or more CLs were exceeded at wells MW-2A and
MW-18. Verification sampling for the organic and inorganic CL exceedances is
scheduled for April 2015. Surface water samples collected from the upstream and
downstream surface water monitoring stations during the first quarter 2015 monitoring
period are generally consistent with each other; no VOCs were detected and no CLs
were exceeded. For vadose zone monitoring up to eight VOCs were detected in soil-
pore liquid samples and approximately 2350 gallons of liquid was pumped from pan
lysimeter WMU-D01N.
M:\2015.0014\FA 1Q15.docx 8
4/27/2015,Rev.0
