Water Quality Monitoring Report
Forward Landfill
downstream samples and no VOCs were detected in either sample. Furthermore, no CLs were
exceeded at downstream point FSW-1.
2.2 Summary
Environmental monitoring for the Forward Unit during the second quarter 2017 monitoring
period indicates that non -statistical indication of release were identified at wells MW -2A as a
result of two VOCs measured at trace concentrations; at well MW -16 as a result of one VOC
measured at a quantifiable concentration; and at well MW -17 as a result of three VOCs
measured at a quantifiable concentrations and three VOCs measured at a trace concentrations.
Of note, these organic constituents have been previously confirmed and are currently in
"Tracking Mode". For the inorganic monitoring parameters, CLs were exceeded at wells MW -3,
MW -10, MW -13, MW -15, MW -17, MW -18, MW -19, MW -22, MW -23R, and MW -24. With the
exception of the pH exceedances in wells MW -13 and MW -23R, which are field monitored
parameters, all of the inorganic CL exceedances were placed in "Tracking Mode" and are being
evaluated for temporal trends. For constituent concentrations in "Tracking Mode", increasing
trends were calculated for barium, bicarbonate, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium,
strontium at well MW -10; carbon tetrachloride at well MW -17; potassium and sodium at well
MW -18; potassium at well MW -19; and potassium and sodium at well MW -24. Surface water
samples collected from the upstream and downstream surface water monitoring stations
during the second quarter 2017 monitoring period were generally consistent with each other;
is no VOCs were detected and no CLs were exceeded. For vadose zone monitoring stations all of
the soil -pore liquid samples were reported dry or there was an insufficient volume of soil -pore
liquid for sampling.
Cl
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 Water Quality Monitoring
3.1.1 Sampling and Laboratory Analyses
Del -Tech performed routine monitoring of DMP, CAP, EMP wells at the Austin Unit during the
second quarter 2017 monitoring period. Depth -to -water measurements were recorded in the
groundwater monitoring wells on May 23 and 25, 2017. Groundwater sampling was performed
between May 23 and 30, 2017, and surface water stations were sampled on April 28, 2017.
Samples were collected from each sample point with sufficient liquid and submitted to BC for
analysis of the routine monitoring parameters stipulated in RWQCB Order No. 115-2014-0006.
Table 2-1 presents the monitoring schedule and summarizes the analytical methods utilized
during the current monitoring period. Wells AMW-1, AMW-7, AMW-10, and AMW-13 were
also sampled for total arsenic, nitrogen, iron, and manganese for the CWLAM program. All
water quality samples were analyzed in the field for ORP, turbidity, temperature, specific
conductance, and pH and recorded on well data sheets. The groundwater monitoring wells,
surface water monitoring locations, and leachate were sampled in accordance with the
Project No. S017.1030 I Water Quality Monitoring Report 9
July 2017
