I'
trace concentration of dichlorodifluoromethane was also measured in the confirmation sample. As
shown in the table below, all of the detected VOCs were below state and federal Maximum
Contaminant Levels (MCLS) for drinking water. Though not associated with the Forward Landfill, the
nitrate/nitrite results of 21 milligrams per (mg/L) exceeded the MCL of 10 mg/L.
Analyte
Units
Results
6/30/17
Results
7/13/17
MCL
Nitrate/Nitrite as Nitrogen
Mg/L
NA
21
10
Chloromethane
µg/L
0.28j
ND
NE
Dichlorodifluoromethane
µg/L
ND
0.23j
NE
Tetrachloroethene
µg/L
0.97
0.59
5 µg/L
Trichloroethene
µg/L
3.3
1.9
5 pg/L
Trichlorofluoromethane
µg/L
0.27j
ND
150 µg/L
Notes: j = Indicates an estimated value.
NE = No MCL established for this constituent.
ND = Not detected.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The analytical results indicate that with the exception of nitrate/nitrite as nitrogen, the MCLs for
drinking water were not exceeded in the groundwater samples collected. MCLs are standards set by the
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of California for drinking water
quality. An MCL is the legal threshold limit on the amount of a substance that is allowed in public water
systems under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The elevated nitrate/nitrite as nitrogen concentrations in
groundwater have been attributed to agricultural activities in the surrounding area. Out of an
abundance of caution, Forward has provided bottled water service for your residence and the tenant's
residence. Forward has also started the permitting to have both residences connected to municipal
water from the City of Stockton. It is recommended that the well be included in the semiannual
monitoring program.
CLOSURE
GLA and Forward thank you for participating in this sampling program. If you have any questions
regarding this information, please call Mr. Joseph Lipka at (209) 235-9622 at your convenience.
cc: William Lopez, Geo -Logic Associates
Victoria Warren, Republic Services
Brendan Kenny, CVRWQCB
Robert McClellon, San Joaquin Environmental Health Department
Enclosure: Figure 1— Property/Well Location Map
Analytical Results—BC Laboratories
Well Access Sheet
Well Sampling Data Sheets
M:\SO17.1030\7255 Newcastle.docx 3
