• A map of the County is prepared that indicates crop and
land use patterns as well as specific potential contami -
nation sources.
• Small systems are grouped into three categories:
- Small community water systems;
State small water systems;
Non-community water systems.
• Small water systems within each category are prioritized
and based on the size of the system and its proximity to
known contamination sources.
• Suspect small water systems are sampled and the water
analyzed for volatile organics and agricultural chemi -
cals. Using EPA's 601 and 602 procedures, 135 wells were
tested for full organic contaminants.
In Appendix G is a summary of inspections performed under this water
program.
13.7 SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY AIR POLLUTION CONTROL PROGRAMS
The County Air Pollution Control District is a division of the Local
Health District. The Air Pollution Director is responsible for the
monitoring of emissions from:
. • incineration processes, including co-generationeneration Indus-
tries.
• Chemical treatment processes classified as "open sys-
tems. "
• Hazardous waste storage and treatment facilities.
• Aeration of soil contaminated with volatile organic
wastes, generally used as a treatment method for soil
contamination resulting from leaking underground fuel
tanks.
The Air Pollution Control Officer investigates health effects result-
ing from exposures to hazardous vapors and gases from industrial
operations.
PJ9 9390502E.00D 13-7 Rev. 1 11/09/88
