In the medium-term planning period, the County will <br />explore other markets in the agricultural, <br />residential and commercial communities and consider <br />changes in the processing of the material which <br />might be required to meet the needs of those <br />markets. <br />E. Statement of Waste Types and Categories to be Diverted: <br />The primary category targeted is yard waste, which <br />represents 16.14% of the entire waste stream for the <br />jurisdiction. However, portions of other waste <br />categories could be included at some future date if those <br />materials could be separated and delivered to the compost <br />facilities. Those categories include vegetable portions <br />of the food waste category, chipped brush from the wood <br />category, newspapers, and certain agricultural wastes. <br />M. Existing Conditions Description: <br />AB 939 guidelines require a description of composting <br />activities currently being undertaken in the County <br />unincorporated area. Yard waste from the residential and self - <br />haul portions of the waste stream in the unincorporated area <br />make up almost 15% of the total solid waste stream. <br />A. Existing Composting Strategies: <br />Currently the only composting project being carried <br />out by the County in the unincorporated area is a pilot <br />leaf composting project undertaken in the fall of 1989 to <br />save landfill space and to reduce transportation costs. <br />In the fall of 1990 the County again collected leaves in <br />Chapter 5 - Compost 3 <br />
