Programs Targeting the Residential Waste Stream: <br />The residential waste steam is 24% of the total <br />waste stream, and residents are also a significant part <br />of the self -haul waste stream which represents another <br />36% of the total. If individuals adopt a recycling/ <br />source -reduction awareness, they will take it with them <br />to their places of business and employment, effecting <br />changes there as well. It is also important to target <br />schools and youth groups, since children are developing <br />the habits they will carry into their future lives, and <br />they can often persuade their parents to think about how <br />they shop and what they throw away. Therefore a <br />comprehensive educational and informational program <br />should be aimed at the residential sector. <br />The County has selected the following programs which <br />target the residential waste stream. <br />1. County staff will work with the cities whenever <br />possible to jointly develop or obtain educational <br />materials and implement programs. <br />2. The County will conduct an education and public <br />information program that emphasizes consumer <br />awareness, fully utilizing materials and products, <br />recycling that which can be recycled, and <br />composting materials that can be composted. <br />3.
