C.
Facilities to be Phased Out or Closed during the Short -Term and
Medium -Term Planning Periods:
The Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill stopped receiving
waste in October of 1991. It is currently being closed
under an approved closure plan. Users of the Harney Lane
Sanitary Landfill are now using the new North County
Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill located east of the
Harney Lane facility on Harney Lane.
The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill in the South
County Area is scheduled to close in 1995. Wastes going to
Corral Hollow will be transported to Foothill Sanitary
Landfill.
Capacity for Each:
With the exception of the replacement site for the
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill discussed in Number II,C,2,
above, no new solid waste disposal facilities will be
required during the next fifteen years for the
unincorporated areas of the County. However, several
transfer stations and/or material recovery facilities may
be needed to use more distant sites and to help achieve
diversion goals. The following discusses these needs.
The Lovelace Transfer Station will be renovated and
expanded in the short-term planning period. This facility
is currently going through the design and permitting stage.
Plans call for recycling capacity which may be low-tech
initially with potential for mechanization in the future as
necessary.
In the medium-term, there will be a public or private
transfer station established to serve the southern portion
Chapter 8 - Disposal Facility Capacity 16
