C
is
l
0
u
0
11'
[i
Site inspections were performed monthly this semester (Appendix H). An electronic signature
on the form certifies that all observations were performed and are accurate.
RUN-OFF/RUN-ON FACILITIES
The NCRCSL utilizes several facilities to control run-on and run-off. A perimeter berm around
the waste management unit prevents any run-on to the unit. This perimeter berm, along with a
series of ditches, also controls all surface run-off during storm events, and directs surface run-off
from the landfill to a retention basin on the east side of the site (Figure 3).
The primary path for water entering the site is from a tributary of South Paddy Creek east of the
site. Water entering from this source is diverted into the wetlands on the north end of the site
and around the unit (Figure 3).
During the past semester there were no breeches in any of the run-on/run-off facilities, and they
will continue to be monitored in the future.
Modules 1 and 3
Facilities
The leachate collection and recovery system consists of:
■ Sump with dedicated pump for Module 1
■ Sump with dedicated pump for Module 3
® Volumetric flow meter for each leachate sump pump, indicating total gallons pumped
■ A 3,000 gallon leachate storage tank at the southwest corner of Modules 1 & 2
■ Discharge pump located at the storage tank
Operation
Leachate is pumped from leachate sumps to the storage tank by manually activating the pumps.
Only one pump can be operated at a time because the control panel switch allows the selection of
one pump circuit or the other. Pumping automatically stops when sump is "dry", as indicated by
a sensor on the pump.
Leachate sump pumps are operated two days per week, on Mondays and on either
Thursday or Friday.
■ Leachate from Module 1 sump is pumped first until pumping stops.
North County RCSL 10 Public Works/Solid Waste
2nd Semester and Annual 2005 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin - January 24, 2006
