• Piercing Valves <br />• Recovery Cylinders <br />The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DISC) requires that removal from major <br />appliances of materials that require special handling be a Certified Appliance Recycler (CAR) <br />certified by DISC. The County engages an outside firm with this Certification to handle these <br />special materials. <br />The CAR inspects each major appliance in the appliance staging area for materials that require <br />special handling. When identified, these materials are removed and placed in the appropriate <br />container, including: <br />The CAR completes a DTSC Form 1430 each day appliances are recycled. This form is <br />submitted to the County, as well as an appliance log documenting the materials removed. The <br />CAR also documents the generation of universal and hazardous wastes removed and collected. <br />7.6.3 Special Materials Handling Practices <br />Materials requiring special handling are temporarily stored at the NCRC&SL before removal to <br />permitted facilities.
